What is a lightfestival?
The first light festivals were created in the late nineties. They were new models that brought life and animation to the urban landscape at nightfall. They were organized on the initiative of cities, associations or private bodies wanting to highlight their architectural heritage, make their animation program stand out and have an impact beyond local borders.
- The first goal of a festival is to lead to a rediscovery of historical and contemporary buildings, squares, parks, bridges and riverbanks, and create a new way of perceiving them by accenting or enhancing them with light.
- The second goal is to transform the nocturnal landscape for inhabitants and visitors by creating an atmosphere that is totally different from the customary one.
For light festival organizers, the keywords are art, astonishment, surprise, poetry, emotion, exception and magic, and the verbs are gather together, share, participate and dream!
